A real Maryland program

A real local solar farm. A real lower bill, every month.

60-second explainer

Three steps. Then your bill just gets lower.

A local solar farm produces clean energy. Your utility credits your bill for your share. You pay less for those credits. Nothing else changes about how power gets to your home.

01
Tell us your address
We match you with a community solar farm in your utility's service area. Three minutes, no paperwork.
02
Solar credits hit your bill
Your utility adds the solar credits each month. You stay with the same utility, same address, same everything.
03
You pay less for them
You buy those credits back at a discount. The difference is your savings, up to 25% on the credited portion of your bill.
Built for renters and homeowners

Four reasons this actually works for your home.

Community solar was designed for people who can't or don't want to put panels on their roof, including renters, condo owners, and anyone who likes the simple life. That covers everyone in the HFA community.

$0 to join
No signup fee, no equipment, no installation cost. The savings show up directly on your electric bill.
No install on your home
No drilling, no roof work, no contractor visits. The panels live at a local solar farm, not on your property.
No credit check
Eligibility is based on your electric utility, not your credit score. Income-qualified residents get the deepest savings tier.
Cancel anytime
No long contracts, no penalties. If you move out of the utility's area, your subscription just ends. No fine print.
HFA makes the homes come true. We help make the electric bill a little smaller every month.
Why this is showing up at your door

Built by Marylanders, for Marylanders.

Community solar enrollment in Maryland is a regulated program. Our Power Co. holds the Maryland Public Service Commission's Subscriber Management license, which is what makes it legitimate for a third party to enroll you in a community solar farm and stand behind your savings over time. That license is the difference between a real program and a sales gimmick.

Alongside it, our nonprofit arm Utility Advisor Inc. exists to connect working families and seniors to programs that make keeping the lights on more affordable, the same residents HFA spends every day building homes for. The overlap is why HFA is bringing this option to your community.

Same mission, different bill. HFA makes the homes come true. We help the electric bill come down.

The math is small per month. The annual number is real.

The average community solar subscriber saves about $15 to $20 per month on the credited portion of their electric bill. Over a year that adds up to a couple of hundred dollars back in your pocket, every year, for as long as you keep the subscription. That's groceries, gas, or your kid's spring soccer cleats.

Common questions

The four things everyone asks first.

Does this affect my lease, or do I need to ask my property manager?
No. Community solar happens entirely on your electric bill with your utility. Nothing changes about your apartment, your rent, or your lease. Your address just gets matched to a local solar farm, that's it.
What if I move?
If you move within the same utility's service area, your subscription moves with you. If you move outside it, the subscription just ends, no fees, no calls, no paperwork.
What if my income qualifies me for assistance?
Income-qualified residents in Maryland get the deepest savings tier. If you're enrolled in any LMI program (SNAP, LIHEAP, Medicaid, WIC, and others), or your household income is under the state limit for your household size, you qualify automatically.
Why isn't this a scam?
Community solar is a real Maryland Public Service Commission program. The savings come from how solar credits are priced, not from any sales gimmick. We're a Maryland PSC-licensed company and we never ask for payment information to enroll you. If you ever see a fee, it's not us.

Take 3 minutes. Save for years.

You'll answer a few quick questions, we'll match you to a farm in your area, and the credits start showing up on your electric bill. No upfront cost. No risk. No reason not to check.
