Utility Advisor Inc is a Maryland nonprofit that keeps electricity flowing to households where it runs medical equipment. Once your service is stable, community solar is how you lower your bill for good, with credits applied to the bill you already get from BGE, Pepco, Delmarva or Potomac Edison.

A shut-off notice, a balance you cannot cover, or equipment you cannot afford to lose. Community solar will not stop a disconnection, and it is not what you need right now. Utility Advisor works between you, your utility and the energy assistance network, and medically qualified households are moved to the front of the line.

Oxygen concentrators. Home dialysis. Refrigerated insulin. CPAP and ventilators. Under its contract with the Maryland Department of Human Services, Utility Advisor Inc steps in between vulnerable Marylanders, their utility and the assistance network so a billing crisis never becomes a medical one.

A discount on the bill you
already receive
A solar farm is built somewhere else in your utility's service area. You subscribe to a share of what it produces, and the credits from that share are applied to your monthly electric bill. You pay for those credits at a discount, and the difference is the saving.
Your utility does not change. Same account, same meter, same bill. Nothing is attached to your home, no one visits, and you do not need to own the property.
Community solar is not emergency assistance. It will not clear a past-due balance, stop a disconnection, or restore service that has already been cut off. It makes future bills smaller. If your service is at risk today, call Utility Advisor at (443) 222-1221 before you do anything else.
If Utility Advisor helped you with energy assistance, you probably qualify for the deeper discount
Maryland community solar has two tiers, and the income-qualified tier saves more. Taking part in a qualifying assistance program is one way to prove eligibility, and energy assistance through OHEP is on that list. So is Medicaid, SNAP and several others.
You do not need to have the paperwork in hand to start. The form asks a short set of questions, and anything else can follow afterwards.

Utility Advisor Inc receives no compensation of any kind for community solar referrals, from Our Power Co. or from any other provider. Utility Advisor presents community solar as one option among several, alongside OHEP energy assistance, medical protections, the Fuel Fund, utility budget billing and efficiency programs.
You are free to choose any participating community solar provider, or none at all. The Maryland Public Service Commission publishes the full list of approved providers at psc.maryland.gov. Donations to Utility Advisor Inc are handled separately at utilityadvisor.org/donate and go to the nonprofit, not to this page.
